GUT FEELING

Alice Héron (FR) explored the idea of “gut feeling” by observing how her work as a professional cook nourishes her ceramic-driven artistic practice. She is interested in the relationship between intuition and guts; what we eat and how we feel; and how we digest feelings and food. Heron used an instant noodle package from the supermarket, a symbol for sealed emotions, to deepen her understanding of glaze experimentation. This led her to create a dark, sci-fi-esque iris luster finish, which evokes a scary, but beautiful feeling of following intuition. She also 3D-scanned, re-scaled and produced styrofoam press molds using CNC milling, which resulted in a series of rhizomatic forms that grew and expanded their gut-like surfaces within her studio. The iridescent reflections of the luster and their seductive, ink-black curves encourage our guts to feel and growl.
